A4 No4902 at Grantham North signal box

Boris was inspired to draw and paint this scene of A4 locomotive No.4902 'Seagull' in front of Grantham North signal box when he was waiting on platform 5 to leave with a Derby train and his driver asked him to nip across to the canteen (where the Railway Club was later built) and fill up their billy can with coffee. On his way he saw No.4902 passing behind the North Box.
The locomotive is painted in the black livery applied to express passenger locomotives during the second world war, both as an economy measure and to make them less identifiable from the air.
Lent by Boris Bennett.
